Filed Under 'WTF?': Canadian Punk Band With Obscene Name to Play for 12 Hours Straight (With Famous Guests!) in NYC Storefront

The New York Observer | 663 days ago

In our Fall Pop Music Preview, we plugged the enigmatic Canadian hardcore/punk band Fucked Up, whose sophomore full length is about to be released on Matador Records. Here are a few things you should know about this group: They're pretty unconventional when it comes to the type of music they play (violins, 20 minute songs, super cryptic weirdo lyrics that incorporate phrases like "meristem jubilee," etc.). The New York Times would not so much as allude to their band name when Kelefa Sennah reviewed their show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg last November. And they do lots of strange things, like when the singer makes his forehead bleed during shows, or when they got Nelly Furtado and a slew of other unlikely collaborators to sing backup on the holiday single they released late last year. They also happen to be stellar musicians, and all of these things combined are why the kids love them so much. (Two fifths of the Culture Czar are massive fans!)

Anyway, today Brooklyn Vegan brings us this new awesomeness/bizarreness about the band:

To celebrate the release of The Chemistry Of Common Life, in stores this coming Tuesday, Fucked Up will be playing live for 12 hours straight at a storefront in New York City. On Tuesday, October 14, from 2 p.m. until 2 a.m., the band will be playing a twelve-hour show at the Rogan store at the corner of Bowery and Bond. Admission is free. All ages are welcome to attend, though the free alcohol will be limited to those 21 and over. Additionally, a free limited-edition 7? of "Royal Swan" will be given away to the first batch of attendees, with a second allotment given away at a later time in the show to be announced. Special guests will be joining the band on stage to help them through this marathon, including the Vivian Girls, John Joseph, Matt Sweeney, Chain Gang, Mobb Deep, Ryan Sawyer from Tall Firs, Jeff Jensen, David Cross, John Cale, K-Taro, Chris Doherty, E.K., DJ Chris, DJ Anarki, Michael Gira, members of the Australian Scapa Flow, Jeanne Bovet, Gods & Queens, Akon, The Edge, Ben Blackwell, Russell Simins, the Boogie, and some megastars we can't announce yet.

Um, what' We suddenly hate the fact that our deadlines are on Tuesdays, but the rest of you should have no excuse for missing this.
