Like the bird that famously rose from the ashes, Lead guitarist Jimmy Crespo , who replaced Joe Perry in Aerosmith for five years in the '70s and early '80s, adds legitimacy to an already incendiary performance.Phoenix is resurrecting something—rock hits of the '60s, '70s and '80s—and doing so with an authenticity not usually found in your average cover band.
Crespo rocks like a demon behind lead vocalist Tony Davich , who offers up his best Steve Perry and Elton John on "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting," respectively.
Other highlights include a guitar and violin face-off during Bach 's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" and a game attempt at "You Shook Me All Night Long." Why is a cover band playing in the theater that Barry Manilow packs every night? It's the only room that can contain them.
