Rockers Oasis announce biggest ever stadium tour

Rock band Oasis will perform their biggest ever tour of open air venues in Britain culminating in two shows at the new Wembley Stadium, they announced Friday.

The Manchester five-piece kick off the summer 2009 tour in their home town and then visit Sunderland, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Dublin before playing the 90,000 capacity England national stadium.

"It's quite a big gaff. This is the first time I've come through the door, it's a great British venue," guitarist and chief songwriter Noel Gallagher said at the Wembley press conference.

Gallagher is currently recovering from three broken ribs after being attacked onstage by a fan during a show in Toronto last month.

The 41-year old is hoping that their London performance exceeds their final appearance at the old Wembley Stadium when his brother and frontman, Liam, appeared a little the worse for wear.

"Liam had been out with a Spice Girl the night before -- a Spice Girl -- and he didn?t bother going to bed," Gallagher recalled.

"It was the first comedy performance at the old Wembley, it was excruciating," he added.

Support will be provided by Midland rockers Kasabian and The Enemy.
