NEW YORK (Reuters) - Rapper and actor Ice-T on Tuesday hit back at police who arrested him in New York City for driving on a suspended license.
"Some... rookie cop...made the arrest of his... career today," Ice-T, whose real name is Tracy Marrow, said on Twitter after being arrested during a routine traffic stop in Manhattan.
"My license in not suspended. I don't and never had a NYC license. I have a valid NJ license. It was all bullshit," the New Jersey-born rapper added on Twitter.
Ice-T, 52, shot to fame with his 1991 album "O.G. Original Gangster", a rap classic, and later won a Grammy Award for his work with Ray Charles and Quincy Jones.
Ice-T has also courted controversy, including for a song he penned while lead vocalist of Body Count called "Cop Killer", which he called a reaction to police brutality.
In addition to music, he has had a prolific acting career, playing the role of Detective Odafin Tutuola on the TV show "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" since 2000.
