Sir Simon Rattle to remain director of Berlin Philharmonic until 2018
The Berlin Philharmonic says that British conductor Sir Simon Rattle has signed a contract to remain director of the world-renowned orchestra until 2018.
Rattle signed his new contract on Wednesday. Under Rattle's guidance, the orchestra has expanded its educational and youth outreach program, and he also helped shepherd the change of its administrative structure into a foundation.
Rattle has led Germany's top orchestra since 2002.
